The purpose of this course is to provide a practical understanding of cranial osteopathy as it relates to orthodontic changes. These principles can be applied to cranial cases to establish a Class-1 occlusion, both skeletal and dental, that is integrated with the body, even in cases that originally presented with severe malocclusions.
What is Cranial Orthodontics?
The root cause of jaw misalignment is cranial strain. Cranial Orthodontics utilizes the foundation of the cranial base to integrate the entire craniofacial complex. This method uses cranial strain release to improve orthodontic treatment outcomes. The craniofacial complex has been described in osteopathic medicine as interdependent blocks, which is consistent with the manuscripts of the world renowned facial growth and development expert, Dr. Donald Enlow. This is particularly useful in understanding changes in the jaw forms and positions as they relate to the release of the cranial base strain. Enlow’s premise was that the dentofacial complex is understood through the optics of the cranial base relative to the Neutral Horizontal Axis (NHA).
“We now have the tools, the knowledge, and the techniques to improve cranial alignment.”
